  • Electrical Gremlin: Simplest Things . . .

    Took the bike to work yesterday. Started it upon leaving and noticed no running lights (turn signals and brake). Rode home with the brake lever in so popo's didn't nab me. Pulled everything apart just now starting at tail light to headlight. PO has wiring a little jerry-rigged, running front and rear running lights. No loose wires, fuses good, etc.

    Musta been a loose wire in the headlight bucket. All is well now.

    I'm not exactly positive, but in PA I don't think the rear signals are allowed to be running lights, but I did it anyway.

    I also ran separate grounds, from all the rear lighting, back to the Neg. battery cable at the frame.
    Front lights and left and right controls ground at the reg/rec.

    One can never be too grounded

      Why does it seem like "must have been" would mean you did not find an actual problem. The problem with problems that fix themselves, is they usually become a problem again relatively soon. I would do what you can to duplicate the problem, wiggle wires, etc till you know for sure it is the problem.

        well, I crammed the headlight into the bucket with difficulty. Probs knocked something loose.

            Then make a single ground point in the bucket up there. I ran a 12awg wire from the battery negative to the headlight bucket and connected everything to that. I left chassis grounds in place but also connected them to the other ground.
