    No Spark

1978 XS1100 with 11,000 miles started up after the winter but then quit. THis is what Ive done so far.

    New Battery
    New Accel Coils
    Checked Fuses
    Cleaned connections
    Checked Tilt Switch
    By passed ignition ballast

Still no spark and when I checked the primary leads to the coils while cranking I get 12 volts on the orange lead but zero on the grey lead. I checked this by putting the voltmeter between the red lead then to the orange or grey lead. Starting to think it is the ignition box would appreciate any ideas.

Would not be impossible to have 2 broken pick-up coil wires...

      Pick-up coil

How hard are these to check, I'm not really sure where to locate them.

      Thanks

        Awesome

Found the pick-up coil but decided to take the fuse box out and clean all the connectors behind it. A few backfires and runs like it never ran before. This is a great site, looking to upgrade my fuse box next. Thanks for the info.

          Welcome!
Check the tips section, fuse panel upgrade is very good idea and not at all expensive.

Make sure you're getting full battery voltage at the ballast resister. It would be a shame to tear everthing apart when all you have is a dirty kill switch.
