  • Cam Chain

As the weather starts to warm up, I'm returning to my rebuild. I've totally dissembled the frozen engine and have nearly finished the cleaning process.

Since the engine was frozen and would not turn, I couldn't get the cam chain off without cutting it. Since then, I have periodically looked for one online to replace it. The only one I found was the "Old Bike Barn" but the order was cancelled due to a long back order.

Does anyone know where I can find a new chain? I would really like to put in a new one since I have it apart. I don't have the tool needed to put a chain together so I was looking for a complete chain.

I have a second engine that I can take the chain from but it will have 40K miles on it.

Any suggestions or sources? Thanks in advance.

Z1 Enterprises, Inc. has your chain in stock. Don't forget to order a master link. I got mine from there some time ago. I recall them being quick responders.

Well as luck would have it I just found one on Ebay for about the same price.

Does the master link require a special tool? I've done bicycle chains before but not a cam chain.

This is the proper tool for the job. Parts n' More has it, Mike's XS has it, Z1 has it, etc. You can also buy one that will do drive chains down to cam chains.

Don't use a split link with clip, whatever you do! Master link with the correct tool to close it is the only way...

Their price has come down, but not as much as my wages.
