  • Fork Brace

Anyone ever looked into this site for a Fork Brace. Looks like they make one for both the Standards and Specials... (Sport). Here is the link.... http://www.fastfromthepast.com/servl.../42/Categories

I am in no way affiliated with this site .... just curious to see if anyone has tried them. From the pictures on the site they look nice and are already painted a flat black. Wouldn't be hard to repaint to your preferred color scheme and the price at 99 plus shipping does not break the bank.

Does look like a decent piece. Keep in mind that would not fit a Special model, including the MNS. The front fender rises up on the Specials and would interfere with that fork brace.

T-Kat sells a nice piece for about the same money. He makes them for both the Standard and the Special.

      look at the sport brace

Look at the sport brace. I believe that one will fit the special. They make two of them. 25-0031 looks to be for the standards and 25-0036 looks like it will fit the sport and or special. It has an arched brace in the middle section. They also list the fitment measurements for all the bikes in a pdf on the site.

it has been talked about in the past. Don't know if anyone has ever bought one or not though.

The price is about the same as the TKAT brace though as well.

          I guess

I guess it will be me then .... I just bought the sport model for my MNS. I will update fitment when I receive it. They are shipping from Atlanta so it should only take a few days. If it doesn't fit then I can always return it. They do have a no install first 20% restocking fee though. I will give it a try and let everyone know. No need for anyone else to incur any expense on this.

Those have been around for a while; popular with the UK guys as those are from Italy. Die-cast, not machined so fit will be the issue...

              Thanks Steve

Yes I searched and found the thread back in December.... wow what a thread that was. I just like the look of this brace. Hopefully die cast won't be a problem. I don't ride that hard anymore anyway.

                  most of the time

my hands are full of grease or paint and I just don't take the time to search. Been a member on here a long time. Just haven't visited lately and I guess my impatience for answers is showing. I just like opinions of others as to what they have seen and done on these great old bikes.

Truthfully, the only braces I have ever seen (in person) on the XS1100 bikes are the TKAT or the hoop types braces. I'll be anxious to know how the Tarozzi brace works out. None of these are going to be around forever. I'm wondering if the Tarozzi braces are old stock, or if they may still be cast to meet whatever little demand there is.

Lift the dust seal and put a caliper on your fork where the brace clamps on, according to Tarozzi the Sport (5K7) is 58mm diameter.

                      http://www.tarozzipaolo.com/inglese/home.htm (Click on Stabilizers)

The Sport uses the same fork slider as the XS1100LH MNS, I dunno if this fork slider top has the same diameter as the LG. Someone may be able to measure up an LH for you.

Steve, I'd seriously doubt a die cast part that clamps to a machined diameter wouldn't be machined itself, die castings generally have a slight taper to allow them to be extracted from the die, 0.5 up to 2 degrees. This is then skimmed true afterwards.

Tom, you're probably right but it does depend on how the mold is constructed. I don't know that it would be an issue, just that if there is one, that's the one you'd likely have....

                          Got the brace in today

I did a preliminary fit on the bike and although it fit I did a few modifications on the brace. The screws that screw the middle section down are too long for the Special so I took my dremel and cut them down level with the bottom of the brace. It then fit fine. No problems with the fork sliders... the 23-0036 sport model fits like a glove on the special. My dust covers fit fine and the arched middle is well off the fender. I am a bit of a perfectionist however so I also used my dremel to round off the edges of the bottom of the two pieces that fit on the inside of the fork sliders closest to the fender. Although it was not necessary to do this I just wanted to allow a little more space there so after I get everything mounted permanently water will still be able to flush debris out of that space. I plant to paint them a gloss black to match my color scheme. I am very pleased with this brace. Hopefully it will make a difference in eliminating the front fork sway that I have experienced in the past.
