hi temp paint for brake disks

hi everyone, i'm constantly repainting parts on my bike, oxidization has taken its toll on many parts. i want to repaint the inside of the brake disks on my xs11. Is it supposed to be a semigloss or flat? anyone know of any high quality hi temp paints? a few years back i painted the brake drums on my car with a hi-temp paint from wallmart. It suits its purpose, stoping rust on the drums, but it does not look that great. i want somthing nice for my fat-ass-jap-bike.

also, the locks for the bolts that hold the disk on, do i have to replace those after removing the disk for paint? or can i get away with using lock washers, or thread locker.



off the point, i got my new exhaust in today, shiny chrome, brand new 4-2 mac pipes, looks great, sounds evil. Perfect.

The lock tabs can be reused as long as they don't break off when flattened, or when bent back into place. Lock washers will be ok also. I wouldn't use thread locker, because the next time you need to remove the rotors you run the risk of pulling the aluminum threads out of the hub. A semi gloss would look good. Just buy a quality paint , and be sure to remove all of the old paint before spraying the new primer and paint. The rotors shouldn't get all that hot any way.

Painting Brake Rotors

eltoroloco, three years ago I had my rotors off and painted them. Just used ordinary everyday rattle can paint. I cut templates to cover the lining surfaces and after lightly sanding, just spray painted them. Three years later they still look good. The rotors don't seem to run so hot that the paint discolored. I also reused the original tab type locks.
I have seen the odd bike though were the owner replaced the original bolts with stainless allen head style bolts, flat washers and then lock washers. It Looked sharp. I believe Denny Z has done this on his bike. If you go this route you could leave out the lock washers and assemble with blue loctite. Likely never move.

stainless allen head and lock washers on mine... no flat washers... seems to hold pretty well.. i do check them every so often and have not found one loose

I used PJ1 gloss high temp, stock bolts with lock washers. Checked them every trip for a while and never found a single one loose.

When I painted, I sprayed everywhere I wanted black and used lacquer thinner to remove the overspray.
