  • saddlebags revisited

I did a saddlebag and luggage search. I have a '80 Special. I have Willie & Max slant bags that fit fine. My problem is that the bags are large enough to fit a sandwich in each one. My daughters want to ride with me. Are there no large slant bags that fit on the Special and leave room for my passenger? I would prefer detachable textile bags and I don't want to modify the bike. Am I asking too much? After searching the forum, I thought I'd ask again.

The last XS I bought has Sampsonite bags. They are easily detachable and hold a lot. Sorry, I don't know where to find them. They won't be cheap if you do find them, as there are a lot of brackets that go with them

Joe Rocket makes a large expandable pair that I have on my standard, most bike shops have them or Dennis Kirk. The model is "Velocity". They appear to be made well and are easy on and off with multiple tie-downs and adjustments. I haven't had them long enough to attest to their duribility but have read good reports about them. When zipped into the narrow configuration they are not very bulky, but with one zipper they can be expanded enough to carry a full face helmet each. They also have pull out rain covers (I hear they are marginal in heavy rain). I think I paid $129 for the set at a local bike shop.

          Bill,

Do you have these for your bike? The description tells me they are too long and won't fit on the Special. If you tell me they fit on yours and leave room for Mary on the back, I'll get some.

Anybody else? My bike is a Special and doesn't leave as much room for bags as the standard model.

            Bags

I got a set of leather bag's at my local Farm & Fleet for $80.
A little trim around the seat mount bolt's, and they were on.

              Marty,

No, I don't have any bags at all. I just saw them mentioned and looked them up on ebay.
