    Help

Hello, I see this post is pretty old, but you've done exactly what I'm trying to do with my newly purchased XS1100, which is shorten the fender & use a Sportster seat... I really like both, but more so the red one. Do you have a thread here on exactly what you did, or could you give me a summary or something? Please help, this is the only part of my build I'm unsure on how to do! Lol

Howdy- Gabe moved from AA to New Hampshire, and sold his XS before he left (he's riding a ZRX1000, and an older FZR). A few others have done similar mods, like XSChop. Be prepared to catch flack, as most are purists on this site, and chopping is taboo. Good luck.

Yeah I do see a few posts where it looks like customization is frowned upon for some reason... Whatever. Anywho, thanx for the feedback.

            Hey JReal and Ian,

We aren't chopper haters, just get bothered to see pristine examples of these bikes cut up just so they can be "CUSTOMIZED"! When folks get beaten, rusted, decrepit, neglected machines...then it's no holds barred, experiment to your hearts content. Like XS11LOVER and others, some fine examples of customized machines have come out looking great!

My old 81SH was regrettably neglected for over 9 years when the tranny died, and because of lack of $$, I didn't bother trying to bring it back to wholesome OEM condition. Also, because I'm also not of average size....6'6" tall vs. the USA avg. height of ~5'10", I made some changes to make it a more ergonomic fit. And then I went crazy and did a bunch of other "fun" experimental MODS...mostly to see if they could be done .... ie.
HID projector inside OEM headlight shell; modern dual piston brake calipers on the front to replace the wonky specials; a 1 wire racing automotive engine 50 amp max output alternator/regulator with a pulley drive; LED conversions of brakes/turns/dash lights; new replacement electronic speedo/tachometer/turn/oil temp/fuel level gauge cluster; homemade diamond plate converted aluminum toolbox saddlebags; homemade forward controls to name a few.

SO....modded bikes are great...whatever gets you down the road safely and fun, but we just hope it's not done to an otherwise pristine or relatively easily restoreable OEM style bike!
