  • Engine to frame mounting bolt torque

In looking over the manual it seems to say 10mm bolts torque to 48-49 ft-lbs, and 12mm to 72-73 ft lbs. One, that is A LOT of torque for bolts that size, and two, all he engine mounting hardware is 12 and 14 mm.

So, am I reading it wrong? Are they referring to thread size? are these correct numbers?

    Mounting Bracket Bolts: 48 ft.-lb.

Front and Rear through bolts: 72 ft.-lb.

I replaced my bracket bolts with grade 8 'cause one snapped when torqueing.

Yah Greg, that set of specs makes more sense than the Clymers where I got my info.

Been Clymered Again no wonder I snapped the braket bolt.

Unless it's milled engine components holding back gas, oil, or pressure I almost never take a torque wrench to this sort of stuff. I've snapped more bolts following directions than I have just using best judgement.

I was thinking the same thing Gabe. I guess the only thing I use one on is the head, and if ever, the wheels.

Being an engineer, its in my nature to read and follow the book. That and I have stripped out to many things over tightening stuff. Worse yet. Have it rattle loose and fall off. If it broke from applying the specified torque, it would probably break under the forces of its use as well.
