Lost shifter level! Any creative ways to fix?

Riding down the road with my XS1100 went to shift and somehow the lever on the front of the shifter fell off and there was nothing for my toe to grab. Stuck a bolt in there for now but does anybody have any creative fixes for this instead of just buying a standard rubber lever?

SO basically you have a shift lever with no toe stub hanging out of it. I think you are on the right track. Go to a hardware store and find a bushing of similar size to the toe piece, maybe a piece of hose to go over it for the rubber effect, and then use a bolt with a washer on each end to bot it to the existing lever. Use Red locktite and a nylon lock nut on the back side to keep it from backing out.

They are not that expensive. Mikes XS has one for $14.75 for a 650. The part # is in the listing so should be easy to cross reference for fit. I bought one a few years ago but cannot find where I actually bought it. But you should be able to find one rather easily.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

Bushing, or metal sleeve, collar sleeve. Looks something like this...

          Bushing

Go to your local hardware store and ask for one, the little local guy, not the big box store. They will have a great selection of similar items for you to choose from.

And yes, the part is not expensive, so replacing it is the best option. But, this is one way to make what you have work. And make the bolt SS for added strength.

BINGO!!!! Mines all funky like Bikerphil is describing! You guys dont have the same kind of shifter lever in the States? Ya im in Germany in the hills and no auto parts or hardware stores around here either.

About the toe stub part do they sell anything cool on ebay that I can just screw back on where the old one came off? Like something made out of skulls for example? Im just missing that little piece.

Im really glad this site is still kicking butt MAKES ME REAL HAPPY THAT I KEPT MY XS1100!!! YOU GUYS ARE GREAT AND MAKE A XS OWNER PROUD. THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN AND HELP!!!

Anarchy- There is no-doubt in my mind you're American, and I have not checked your profile yet, lol. And if you're from over there, you have our phrases down perfect! Also, do me a favor and don't break too many more Euro parts, I will be converting my bike's shifter, brake lever and footpefs to a Euro setup and need all the parts I can get from over there

Ian, using Anarchy's link and scouring the XS11 parts, just about all the sellers won't ship to the USA.

I'd like to change my foot controls, on my SF, to the 5K7 style also.

Will need the shifter cover too, and the clutch adjustment cover to match.

Might have to make them out of whats available locally.

Hey if anyone needs parts for here send em to my house and I will send em to you if you do the same for me vice=versa Im big on ordering from the States cause I find your guys service better and way more stuff and also alot more affordable!!! Im always getting ripped off by shippers on Ebay so if someone helped me get parts affordable (cause USPS offers International Flatrate Shipping which alot of Ebay sellers wont do for me) when I need em it would really help
