    Valve seals

On my 53 Bentley with an F head motor, the overhead inlet valves used packing seals. These would slowly wear out causing more oil use. Replacing the seals reduced oil use.
On my 350 truck motor replacing the seals achieved the same result.
I asked the old British mechanic about the RR choice of seals. He said it was good to have plenty of oil going down the valve stem. And further he said that is what kept the RR engine powered planes in the sir.
Of course these days folks do not want to see smoke.
But also the valve geometry has changed. On a 750 Norton engine, as the valves open and close, the motion of the rocker is trying to bend the valve.
The action of the overhead cam engines is much kinder to the valves. Too, the oils have got a lot better. So the valve guide seals have better sealing qualities.
These is always good old STP to fill the voids.
I think I will add some to my tractor as he smokes while having good compression. Disclaimer: 114 pounds of pressure is good for a 41 side valve motor. 180 or less was not enough for the Norton motor at 10.5 to 1.
