  • 78 standard exhaust

    Howdy ya'll
I am looking at a 78 standard exhaust with small dents and some scratches
on them .They also have the plate on the left pipe (Yamaha replacement)
What would be a good price to pay for them?
    78standard,79 & 80 Specials; 2 x 650 Maxims; 4 x RD350's; yz450; 2 x Honda tlr's;2x jt1 mini.

They are worth what you are willing to pay. If you don't have to buy them right away, check the set for a 79 special on ebay right now. they are starting at $495
there's a set marked as 80 but look like the 78 standard, not as nice on there for $295 also

Ok, I'll start with the smartazz comment....As much as they are worth to you.

Seriously though, I have seen them go for upwards of $1,000 for a clean nice factory set. Some folks have gotten them for $100 on a steal! So the price can be all over the place. How much is the seller asking for them? might be easier to get a reply if they are worth the asking price, than how much would you pay.

Yeah, there was a point where I was willing to pay $500 for that exhaust. I ended-up paying $175 for a great set of pipes. Although the left side developed a hole.

          Hi Joe -

Here are the ones on Ebay that dpotter58 mentioned in post #2:

          Special:
          http://www.ebay.com/itm/1979-Yamaha-...f87133&vxp=mtr

          Standard:
          http://www.ebay.com/itm/80-YAMAHA-XS...4c1ab7&vxp=mtr

At least these will give you some idea of what original Eleven exhausts in this condition are going for (on Ebay, anyway).

And by the way, how much is the seller asking for them?

I'm not sure I'd pay that much for the Standard exhaust in that condition. I struck gold getting mine as cheap as I did, but I would have stayed content with my Mac system.

              Standard exhausts

              I don't mind the "smartazz"response!
I couldn't think of a better way to word my inquiry.
              Thanks for the input.
He wants 275.00 but I think I might be able to bargain some.
I want to get a closer look at them though.

Strangely enough the ones on ebay are here in Denver.
I might inquire about them also.

The problem is ,that two weeks ago I went to New Mexico and bought two more 11's (up to six now) and haven't gotten deep enough into them to determine how much life may be left in them and if I want to buy pipes
              For them ...yet.
              The existing ones are hacked.

Just got two sets of carbs clean with pine sol....worked GREAT.
              Waiting for float bowl gaskets.
Time permitting ...fire them up this weekend.

              Thanks again

                  float bowl gaskets

                  Yea, I already ordered them.
Wanted to go oem but not at 12 bucks a piece
Went with k&l even though I am not too thrilled with some of the things I
                  have gotten from them.
I will inspect them closely, copy to gasket paper and go from there.
                  Thanks for the offer!!

                    exhausts

It's tough buying exhausts without being able to inspect them up close and personal. Pictures just can't tell you what you need to know.I bought a set for a special that looked good in the pictures but when I got them I put a finger right through the muffler just taking it out of the box. So basically now I have a good set of headers.

I just thought I would add on here that when I first got into my xs11 I didn't know there was as big of a following as there is. I had so many parts (including exhaust parts, seat, etc.) that just went into a dumpster.....so wonderful to know I threw out enough money to cover most of the build on my bike. haha.
