  • Leaking oil pressure sensor

I have found that the drip of oil that I keep getting is coming from the oil pressure sensor. I took it off and put a new seal washer on and cleaned it good. Then I took a 20 mile ride. When I got home and checked there was another drop forming on the screw and wire.

I believe that the old internal seal is the problem.

Anyone ever sealed the sensor? Of course I would have to have continuity!

If the sensor you are referring to is on the bottom of the motor, that is the neutral light switch. The oil pressure sensor is on top the motor near the starter.

I may be wrong and you may be correct. Yes, under motor, left side behind shifter.

I have successfully (sort of) sealed those up with JB weld before and it stopped the leak for a while but did not last. I ended up just eliminating the switch altogether by replacing it with a bolt. New switch runs about $20, GL.

I have replaced the neutral switch, by the shift lever, bottom of engine, port side. Have not had any leaks there. There is a small brass washer for it. Could be a leak above it from somewhere, making it appear the switch is leaking?

Personally, I'd replace it with a new one. Oil leaks of any sort are too reminiscent of my British bike days. A little bit of oil goes a long way when riding..it usually ends up all over the bike, foot and tyres. For all the cost, it's not worth mucking about with if the internal seal has gone...

+1 on replacing the part with a new one. Be done with that problem. When that type of switch begins to leak, there is no repairing it.

The neutral switch looks identical to the one on the XS650. I have replaced a leaker on that bike. If it's the same, a new one will be available and the way to go.

I went to the barn and took the one off the spare motor. I cleaned it and put some Silicone on top and let dry over night. Just put if in and will try another ride later today. I don't like leaks either and if this doesn't work then I will come off the hip and get a new one.

2H7-82540-00-00 shows obsolete. (NLA) I wonder what's different about 136-82540-00-00? It's used on a lot of bikes. Without removing them from their respective motorcycles, they look the same.

Strange. The XS650 switch PN changed to 136-82540-03-00. I assume it is not a match.
