  • Headlight Bucket

I'm trying to find a replacement headlight bucket for my 1979 XS1100SF special.
The part # for the 79 is 3H3-84330-00-93
The part # for the 80 is 4H1-84330-00-00
I can't find any info telling me what the difference is, Does anyone know?

    Cheers Floyd

The SF is unique, but I don't know why. I would expect the 4H1-84330-00-00 to work for you. It fits five different bikes, including the XS850 and '83 XJ750.

      Hey Floyd,

I'm not sure where you got your part #'s from?

      I reviewed/searched on this UK site: http://www.benefiscal.co.uk//index.php

According to this site, the 4H1 is the bucket from the midnight series, and specifically the 850! They have photos, so I captured some from the few models, the 79Sf, the 80SG, and the 81SH. The part numbers for the later years start with 3J6, vs. the earlier 3H3 for Specials.

      3H3 prefix

      3J6 prefix 80SG

      81 XS850 MNS with 4H1 prefix

        Part #'s

I got some of my part #'s from http://www.powerpartsplus.com/
But they didn't list a round bucket for 1979, only a square so I went to a newer year. It's very hard to see the difference in the pictures you have. I have an 81LH Midnight Special and the bucket is black, with the gold ring.

          Hey again,

The 850's bucket has a larger bulbous portion on the bottom, the 11's have a more rounded shape, with just a couple of grooves for the fork tubes.
Others have the 81 MNS and can speak more authoritively about it's shape, but I think it's the same shape as the 80/81 regular specials....I'm thinking the different prefix # is because it is BLACK!

Yeah, those aren't MY photos, and one of the chrome ones is rotated to a different position than the other, but it's the same shape, but the black on is quite different.

            4H1-84330-00-00 breaks as the correct bucket for XS850LG, XS1100LG, XS850LH, XS1100LH, and XJ750MK. So, it's black.

            3J6-84330-00-93 is for XJ650G, XS1100SG, XS850SG, XS1100SH, XS850SH, XJ650J, XJ650K, and XJ750K. It's chrome.

3H3-84330-00-93 is peculiar to the XS1100SF.

I'm pretty sure any of the three will do the job. I'll have to go get a good look at the XS650 as I think that works too.

              Bucket

Thanks for all your help guys. I almost bought a 4H1-84330-00-00 that I found brand new. I want to keep my bike stock with the chrome bucket, not the black one. So I'm down to the two choices below.
3H3-84330-00-93 is peculiar to the XS1100SF Which I can't find.
3J6-84330-00-93 is chrome. I can buy this one brand new from an old parts shop.

XS650 is the same shape as the 11SF, but the up/down headlight alignment tab is on the wrong side, spot welded to the bucket just opposite. If you took off the tab on both and swapped the 11SF onto the 650 bucket I don't see why it would not work. Would need spot weld, rivets or small bolts to mount the tab.

Snowing at 6AM yesterday, gone by 9AM.
Going to put on my old 1 pc. orange hunting jump suit and work in the garage. I've got tools and parts everywhere and soon the cars need the garage ! High of 44° today, 6° under my preferred lowest comfortable temp but I'll ride down to 20°F .

This is Woody Gap this morning. You're looking up the Appalachian Trail.

Bottom line: XS650 headlights will be fine on XS1100 with a simple modification. At the rate XS650's are falling to the Sawzall, there ought to be plenty of them. My apologies for going far off topic.

                            Hi Marty,
About a million or more trees later one would be in Maine where the snow would be a lot deeper......or would it be spring by the time we got there

                              Headlight bucket

I ordered a new 3J6-84330-00-93 bucket that indeed had the mounting slot for the up and down adjustment on the wrong side. I jimmied it but I didn't like the flex due to the long bolt. I watched Ebay and found the correct one. I got it cheap enough or I would've welded my old one that had the slot broke off at the weld. I now have a brand new 3J6-84330-00-93 bucket that I don't need. Floyd
