ok gots a 82 xj1100 I am going with pods in replace of airbox I know tuning is a problem but i always have pods on all my bikes because of looks, i also eliminated the octy, all my bikes i have always had to turn petcock off so thats not a issue, my question is there is what seems to me is a pvc hose of sorts running from the top of air box to the motor under box, correct me if im wrong i can just put a small airfilter in that hose and itll it will be ok, if not let me here some suggestions other than leaving the airbox on hehe.... if anyone is interested in the box its missing the air filter and cover for filter but otherwise in pretty good shape, also the octy looks pretty good but dont know of its condition for sure. up to trading both or selling if interested.. thanx guys..

thats probably the vent for the crankcase, put a small breather filter on it.
zip tie out of the way, dont get rain water in there.

        Pods

I would recommend going with a Dynojet kit for the jetting. IMHO it's the best choice with pods on the XJ.

Yes, Dynojets are where it's at. I'd put the bike on a Dyno though ate rewards to check the jetting. You'd probably need Stage 3 Dynojets with pods and, presumably, a non-OEM exhaust system.

I put Stage 2 in my XJR because I'm using the OEM filter box with free flow filter. I installed the 'default' jet sizes recommended by Dynojet (although you get several different sizes) and the Dyno reading confirmed everything was bang on, first time.

It's amazing how different the main needle profile differs from OEM.

thanx guys luckily for me someone already put some sweet 4 in 1 headers on bike, will get name brand tommorow when i go back into my shop, im making progress still have no spark but have found the wires for the kickstand was burnt from the exhaust and pulled out of the switch twisted the 3 together but still no spark.... got my brake lights working, got my brakes working front and back, pulled carb bowls and found out someone has put brand new everything in there down to the floats, eliminated my octy ran my fuel lines, got alot of wiring to cover before i blame it on my ignition module for sure, checked my tip over switch, pulled driver side cover all good so it seems there nice and clean with no broke wires, so freaking ready to ride this thing, but Patience is a virtue I appreciate all the info guys keep it coming... need to order a fuse block form tc too soon..
