  • Its been a year

After one year dealing with the Sandy storm mess I have my XJ back 100% I have (2) 81xs1100SH bikes with titles I did best I could I drained and oiled last I checked they turn free and do not look bad. One set of carbs I cleaned and seem good the other not so good. If there is any interest I will give them away I would like to keep the tanks and side covers to recover some cost but could work something out. Everything else is there and even new tires on one. If there is any interest let me know I will post some pix later this week. I wish I had the time I am still trying to get the 78 back and am close 2 more is just to much. They are not rust buckets lots of good parts and can be saved
I hate to part with them but I am overwhelmed.

Dang, the distance is such a killer. I would love to have them to work on, been looking for a project bike to resurrect. I wonder what the shipping would be from there to here?

I believe it's Allied Moving that will transport motorcycles and they are pretty reasonable.
But you would need to verify that but I know one of the big moving companies will ship bikes across country.

It will still cost around $1000 to transport two bikes whether they run or not.

I already have my project working these sound to be much better off than my rust bucket project.

        FWIW

I just had an engine shipped from Michagan to Florida for $175. I used UShip.com and it was very easy, you put in what you want to ship and shipping companies bid on it. No obligation until you accept a bid.

I went to UShip to get a "quote", apparently it set up an auction automatically. I have a price of less than $500 for both shipped so far.

Here are all the pics he sent me. These bikes are not beyond help for sure, but there are some crusty parts. The shipping was just to much for my pocket book.

I got to save at least one

Looks like no takers on the East Coast. I am still overwhelmed with the Sandy Storm repairs but I can't let the bikes go to the scrap yard. I am going to try my best to get at least one back in shape and start the work now. I hooked a battery to the bikes today one turns over the other might be seized. I am going to start to tear down the one tomorrow I think I have enough carb parts to put one set together one bike took a worse hit and the carbs were loaded with sea water.

I am was thinking start with compression test but I loaded so much oil in the cylinders not sure I can I removed the plugs and just spurted oil out?

I will check for spark but now thinking this is not huge if no spark? not sure
I need to see if I can get it running and go from there I guess

I think I can get the aluminum parts back in shape using crazy steves method

All the chrome is shot including the handle bars I was going to start the ebay hunt The bikes are XS1100SH 1981 I could use some guidance on what years are interchangeable for fenders and handlebars shocks etc. the forks might be saved not sure.
DGSER did a great job on painting some fenders is this a better option
Are rotors something that can be cleaned up or should I look for replacement
                            s

                            Thanks

                              Hi Eastcoaster,
Most Special parts swap from year to year as do most Standard parts.
Sidecovers and seats, some do, some don't.

Swaps between Special and Standard are sometimes dodgy.
I don't see that you have an urgent problem unless you are bitched for storage space.
Spray those bikes with inhibiting oil and tarp them up. Do research on long-term storage. They'll keep like a fine wine until you are ready to fix them.
Guzzi brake disks are cast iron and they get surface rust if you stop for lunch on a rainy day.
First time you hit the brakes afterwards they clean right up.
Yamaha's stainless disks will be just fine.
