  • UK Clutch Cover

So, I think the US XS got the raw deal on aesthetics when it came to the clutch cover, let alone the lack of a blacked-out engine (with the exception to the LG/LH). I perused both US/UK ebays and noticed that both sites don't have the UK clutch cover with the horizontal bars. I did see one or two, but all of the rest are the plain-jane cover. Does anybody know the reasoning behind the UK aesthetics vs. US? Did they just feel bad for the Brits and gave them a bone, lol?

you got a raw deal on the riding position too. The European model was famous at the time for its ergonomics which permitted hundreds of miles of pain-free riding. The footpegs are farther back, handlebars different, shorter foot brake lever, a gearchange linkage to allow the footpeg to go farther back on the bike, thus allowing a lean into the wind, with feet slightly back, rather than a wrist-aching, back hurting laid back 'Easy rider' style.

The gearchange side has the bars too...

      To match the clutch side.....

I've shipped several sets of components to the USA to allow conversion to the European riding position. The footpeg plates are different too....

To paraphrase Winston Churchill when referring to a comment made re Britain by someone in the US.... "Some clutch cover. Some bone"

You will be more than welcome, Iain. You're going to be visiting Scotland, I hope? I lived there for 15 years... Great biking country!

Probably Greater London, and of course Scotland. My dad and I biked Scotland on some BMW's many years ago. Beautiful it is. So much history.
