  • New project just arrived...

I need another project like a hole in the head, but I just went down to Dallas yesterday to pick up a "Bike" from a member that was giving it away. Hated to see it go to a Salvadorean lawn guy who had no clue about them. It's more just a frame and motor with boxes of parts.

The P.O. hates carbs for some reason and was planning on installing fuel injection. I'm wondering if the Emgo fuel filters had anything to do with that? Since electrical isn't my forte', fuel injection might be for a future project with the help of smarter people than me. Here's a list of some of the new parts in the boxes:

-New T-Kat fork brace. Hopefully it's the right one for the XJ and will fit over it's fender.
    - New rear wheel bearing. Already had a couple, so another spare.
    - Auto-adjusting cam chain tensioner.
    - Buss style fuse block. Mod to the sidecover or mounting plate needed for this one.
-In-tank fuel pump for Suzuki. Also an externally mounted fuel pump.
-Fuel injection rack and wiring harness from a Suzuki GSXR 750.
-One of TC's spin on oil filter adapters.
    -Type 1 750 final drive.
    -New rubber boot for U-joint.
    - And my most favorite of the boxes... A brand new in package set of 3-point case guards.

It has the spaghetti style Jardine pipes with it with the chrome in decent shape. The tank has a couple small dings in it and faded Macho Maroon paint. Side covers are there, but they're in rough shape. Looks like it had a laydown on the left side? Gauges and left side cover are scraped up. A center stand is in the boxes. I don't know if this exhaust prevents it but I prefer one. Not sure yet if I will be taking the motor out, but it's a probability since I know nothing about it. Seems I remember the owner saying it needed 2nd gear fix as well. It's showing 49k on the odometer, which really means nothing after 30+ years. Wouldn't hurt to split the cases and give it a going over and install a new cam chain and starter clutch rebuild while there. It'd also be a good time to inspect and paint the frame... so I can scratch it all up putting the motor back in. lol.

Not sure why he had the whole front end off, but a front shock going-over is in store as well.

Looks fun Todd. You can tell the veterans of these engines when they speak of splitting cases like dropping a pop tart in a toaster.

Ehh.. When I get ready, I'll take some pics and take the mystery out of it for a few people. It's fairly simple. Main thing is being able to count to 34.. lol. I've got a tutorial for re-assembly. Might as well have one for disassembly.

We got the engine back into doc's frame without scratching it. At least maybe this frame is straight...................for the time being.

When you put the engine back in, set the frame down over the engine (with the engine laying on the side of course). I put my engine back in like that without issue or scratch.
