If you cut the mufflers loose from the collectors on the Special pipes and reweld them on with the angle changed, they can be fitted to the standard. You'll still have to modify the mounting brackets on the mufflers, and probably switch to the Special side and center stands (the center stand for sure).

They still won't look quite right, as with their faster taper they'll look like they're running downhill.

Good post Tom. They did not look bad at all. I did not know the exhaust sustems were hard to come by in the UK as well. If I went on CL right now, I could probs find ten XS's, all with original exhaust all within a couple hours driving for me.

Ok, would you please start riding then and buy all them exhausts. Then ship them to me, I'll buy them all (if in good shape).
I just missed out on a brand new in the box NOS standard exhaust and I'm sick of it...

I think he STRONGLY exaggerates that number.

Honestly Don, between Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana, there are tons of XS11's I've come across with OEM exhaust. Shoot, I found that stock exhaust system in Ohio for $175.

As for buying just an exhaust around here it is next to impossible. I can buy complete bikes for under $400 that have the stock exhaust. Not always in the best of shape though, but readily available. There are 15 bikes currently on our classifieds which are under the $2000 mark and there is a foot of snow at least everywhere.

Oh, I'm sorry if I misspoke gents. I was referring to complete bikes with original exhaust. Yeah, I dunno how many in my area missed the boat regarding that OEM exhaust on CL I bought. One of the best investments so far. VFR coils, HID kit, LED instrument lights to follow over the Winter.

No need to apologise I know you all were talking about bikes with exhausts instead of exhausts.
But next time you have such finds and you can make your buy more interesting by selling the stock exhaust to me, let me know.
I have two more bikes in restauration that need to be finished
