In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.
I know a gentleman on the XS650 list who sold his tracker. I think he built it in the nineties. He sold it to Deus Ex Machina. From Texas, the bike went to the west coast.
He had a very bad case of seller's remorse. Just this past month, he was able to buy it back. If it ever goes on the block again, it will be his widow selling it.
James, you need to make it happen. You won't likely find a better one and to reproduce it will cost more than the asking price. You know I'm right!

I bet that is a powerful machine! IMO, it takes second place next to that eye catching bike 'Limey Accent' (please feel free to post a pic someone!).
Yes, you're right, it would cost less to buy back than to take an unrestored one and get it to that condition. Someone's let those headers go a bit thought, eh? But a bit of buffing would sort that out, and a polish of the tank etc. I owe the XJR and all its mods to the 'Black Beauty' though, so not all bad. Six months work and £2750 went into doing that bike up. Many of the brand new components were very difficult to find..shockers, lift handle, headlamp trims etc. Also lots of re chroming and the stainless exhaust. The bike's done 100 miles since I sold it. And I did get $8500 for it when I sold it. .......I've almost convinced myself...

Ever since you sold that bike you have been making regretful posts about selling it. You have been searching for another to fix up but can't find one. The amount of time and effort (and money) you put into that bike was amazing. I think it is destiny here, she needs you back just as much as you need her!

So why the $1000 drop in price? Does the guy have more money than brains, or did he screw something up, and doesn't want to fix it, which would get back to the more money than brains reason.
Have you seen it in person since he put it up for sale?
I just saw that my old XS1100 is up for sale...the one I renovated.... I just wish I had the money to buy it back!
Hi James,
I must have sold over 50 bikes that I should have kept but you don't see me crying in public.
And like Marty sez, we on the XS650 list have already seen way too much seller's remorse to have any patience with it.
The banks are full of money and the interest rates are an an historic low.
Go borrow some and quit yer whinin'.

I'm not actually crying yet....just getting a little quivery-lipped......and nostalgic. What's the interest rates at the moment and can I borrow some money underwritten by sub-prime loans that never need to be repaid?
