Question is will the front wheel of a Special fit on a Standard? And would I have to change the brake rotors?

Yes, they are direct fit. 78 and some 79 standards had tube type rims though.

No, you don't have to swap the brake rotors.

IIRC, you could also use the front wheels off of an XS750/850, or XS650.

For the XS750/850, you do need to swap the rotors. XS650's are single rotor, but the same as XS1100.

I believe the 650 is different, not certain about the 750 but I know the 850 front and rear will work if you change the rotors.

XS650 wheel is a match for the XS11. The SR500 front wheel is a match, too! The XS650 is the only one I'm sure has matching brake rotors.

The speedo parts are not the same as I recall.

Thx. Going to install 80H forks, brakes and fender on 81SH with the SH wheel. I knew about the speedo parts and have all of the above.

You will want to swap the triple trees as well if you swap forks between the Standard and the Special models. Swapping only one of the two changes the trail of the steering and can / will effect handling. And not to be nitpicky, but the 80 models are G models. The letter E, F, G and H refer to the model years 78, 79, 80, and 81 respectively. The S was added for Specials, and an L was added for the Midnight Specials.
