    I just called a hydraulic shop for a price quote on lines. They said $40-$80/line. Yikes!

The insurance company can deny any claims because you modified the bike and it should not have been out in public.       What I'm finding, from DOT and from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, they both contradict your scare tactic. Basically, as long as you're using DOT certified materials and they are installed leak free and as designed, you're covered. From what you are saying, changing the fluid or the pads would lead us open to lawsuits.

        And thinking more on this, by your reasoning, unless we were to have a total system replacement, completely sealed, every time by a DOT certified tech, we would be sued. If we replaced the lines every four years, as described in the manual, why is there no other warnings pertaining to DOT regs? What would be the difference between replacing a single line, or both lines whether they came in some set or you bought the components separately?

        Buying a complete set of DOT lines is no different than buying a complete set of DOT lines and DOT ends, from what I'm seeing, but if you've got something else I'm missing, I'd love to have it posted or point me to where you git it.

          Just have to ask you if you took your car/truck into a dealer and they installed lines of "questionable lineage" and your family was killed or maimed would you accept the fact they used parts combined or would you prefer the whole brake line to be certified?
          I am not sure exactly what your beef is with others using the lines of their choice as opposed to making them. Myself, I would like to simply buy what I know will fit when it gets here and will work for my application. I would also like to know that if it does not fit or it leaks that I have warranty on those parts or I can return them.
          If someone can run a different tire pressure than you or set their carbs differently than you or run a different oil than you... Then why can they not make their own decisions on what brake lines to use without your blessings? It is their money and they can spend it how they see fit and towards what makes them comfortable when riding.
          You do not agree with the DOT certification. So be it. Prove it to be wrong, but do not ask us to prove it right. Your bike, your life and you are free to make your own decisions.

            I don't have the slightest clue what you're even saying here. I never once suggested using any line or parts that weren't certified? What lines am I "Making"? I am using DOT certified lines with clamped on ends (As per cert standards) and using DOT certified banjo connections. Your whole statement here makes no sense as to anything that was said. Seems your "Beef" is only be with me... again? I never once suggested people need my "Blessing". Most people on here like to save money, and I was simply not understanding why they'd do it if you'd get the same quality (Or higher) DOT certified lines on their bikes. You want to pay 4 times the price for pretty packaging.. so be it. You now have my blessing.

                LOL.. Read into what? You said I disagreed with DOT certification. That was never said. What is it that I'm reading wrong? You talked of taking your vehicle to a dealer who installed questionable lines.. not sure what that is even about since nobody is doing any of that, so what am I misreading?

                I never had a beef with anyone using other lines, I just didn't understand it and certainly didn't infer anywhere that anyone needed my blessing, so what am I reading wrong into that? You took off to carbs, oil, and tires, and haven't a clue what that was about since it doesn't pertain to anything said, so what am I reading wrong? I've read quite a bit into DOT certification as well as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and I reported my findings, though I'm no expert. I could go back into my history and find the sections I read if it would help you. As a matter of fact, I'd love to be pointed to something that contradicts what I found.                       New Brakes/Lines

                      After having replaced/rebuilt all components of the front brakes on the Venturer, I was able to road test it yesterday. I have to say that I was impressed with the difference. It was as if the brakes had gone from manual to power assist. I am pleased with the results. I had to relearn the application of them, but it was a good adjustment.
