  • Back rest ??

I need a "tastefull" backrest for my 81 Special.I have seen some of the luggage rack/sissy bar combo's.
What I want is just a nice padded backrest. It doesnt need to be huge, just something to give my wife some security.
The HD boy's have a bunch to choose from, but I have not seen anything for my scoot.
3" or 4" tall is all I need.
    Any idea's??

I had an old ugly sissy bar. I cut it down, made a few bends in it, and made a pad for it. Looks really good, AND is quite comfy

Do you have access to welding/ heating/ metalworking equipment? Any experience in this work? Don't think it would be too hard to make one. I'm sure I could make one pretty quick if I had a Special to work off of for dimensions. All I have is a Standard E.

My organ donor had a rather nice sissy bar (if you like sissy bars) on it. I cut it just above the mounting brackets and bolted it to the Sampsonite removable luggage rack. When the luggage is in place, it is hard to see where I bolted it. I have two welders, torch, grinders, 2 drill presses, lathe, pipe bender, and home-made hydraulic press. I am a retired welder/machinist. Also a part-time mechanic. This sort of stuff is easy to do, even for a novice, if you have access to some basic equipment.

Use ½" waterpipe. Comes in various lengths and different angled fittings for the corners. Thread it all together (use Loctite) anf spray black. Shouldn't cost more'n $5-10 .
Of course I'm kidding. Vacation starts tomorrow and I'm already getting goofier.
