This weekend I bought another XS1100 that came with some nice 2 to 1 exhaust pipes but without the side mount bracket required to mount them to the bike. For anyone in a similar situation or that their existing brackets don't quite fit I thought I'd share a little piece of fabrication of work I did to get them on there quite snugly.
Using a drill press and a dremel tool I took some inch wide steel bar stock and fashioned two of these slotted mounting brackets to mount the exhaust. The cutting part with the dremel to make it slotted did take a bit of time and a few cutting bits since it was steel but it ended up coming out really well. I cut it slotted because I didn't quite know the exact measurements for both sides and from experience I suspected that both exhaust tubes probably wouldn't be exactly the same shape.
As you can see they simply bolt on to the existing mounting points both on the bike and the exhaust itself.
Here you can tell why the sliding slot portion of it came in handy because the bracket actually had to facilitate the exhaust "riding forward' a little bit to properly fit the exhaust manifold on the head of the engine.
The finished product:
Thought I'd share my finding and maybe one day it'll help someone else in a similar position.
