All four should be the same right? Any reason the two center would be the same and the outer different? Different as in the number of holes in them.
79 f carbs.

The two in the center are supposed to have fewer holes as they were designed to run richer in order to cool the carbs better. That is normal. All of the needles should be the same though.

Sorry, not ALWAYS. Yamaha did that in some instances as they did in 81 on the Venturer ONLY with the main jetting cause of the increase load on motor, carrying expected heavier loads, and the slight blockage of air flow to inner two upper cyl. from the factory installed oil cooler. Not sure how really necessary it was, but it sure wouldn't hurt on these motors to go one step richer with the mains on the two center cyl. anyways. Would help quench the added heat of those two cyl...........plus no more double-nickel speeds having rpms out there on the slab at 3800rpm range any more. Most of us run in the 5K range and above on LD rides, unless of course the final drive swap is done, which drops those R's, but bettin most who do that still just let the bike roll that much faster anyways, specially on the slabs out this direction. I let mine(whenever I happen to ride it) roll that much faster anyways on the slab, and don't ever intend to make that final drive change. No need, as I already have a LD STeed.
