Better than vaseline and WD40, you think? They popped right in when I used the 2x3 also, so that part of the job shouldn't have me sweating this time.

      I'm stuck!

I'm finding some contradictory info on where the measurement is taken on the plastic floats. The documentation I've referred to mentions the highest part of the actual float to the gasket surface (without gasket), but it shows differently shaped floats when showing how to take the measurement. With the plastic floats I have, it makes a difference of about 1mm on the first float I measured depending on which location I used... the higher part near the hinge, or the highest part in the middle of the lobe.

This first picture from a XS650 shows the measurement through the middle, which isn't actually the highest part of the float. The text with the picture specifically said it was being measured in mm in that area of the float.

This picture from an earlier post on this forum shows the measurement location with green dots... being done near the hinge.

This picture is from the following thread on this forum:

There was a response stating to use the green arrow, which is the lobe area:

This one is from the same thread as the above picture, indicating to use the area near the hinge:

I didn't expect to get caught up on this. Any ideas?

        Hey again,

Well, the Fine Official Yamaha Service manual that I just received from Reffi(Yahoo List) shows using the highest portion of the main body of the float, so yes the green dot in your second picture is the correct place.

OK, thanks TC. Based on that, to answer the question posed earlier, measuring all 8 float bodies from the highest part of the float body to the gasket surface (with no gasket installed), they were all about 26 mm within a range of +/- .5 mm. So, that's averaging 3 mm more than the 23 mm spec. I'm done for the day and will get to adjusting them tomorrow.
