  • XJ650 Turbo... Any love?

I just made a deal on new addition to my stable and tunrs out it will be TWO bikes.

I have been wrangling back & forth with a local contact who is a master mechanic and possibly the best late 70's-80's Japanese wrench in the country.

He works on all my bikes and is an XS11 genius.

The bike I'm buying is a clean (and rare) 1982 Suzuki Katana 1100 that he knows I want and told me he would only sell it to me if I bought his XJ650 Turbo.

I've never so much as had a leg over one of these and from what I've heard they are quite docile and even undepowered until the turbo kicks in.

The bike is in storage but will be pulled out and fired up next week. It's getting close to the end of the riding season. It's clean but according to my guy runs perfectly.

I know I don't have any pics to post but what is the market like for these bikes?

I'm hoping for a quick sale to recoup the money I was not planning on spending.

No many on ebay or Craig's but I seem to see $2,000-$3,000.

I'm in a city of only 700,000 with only a 6 month riding season. I might be married to it till spring unless I can do a quick flip.

I may also post it in the For Sale section when I get my hands on it. Wonder if any members might be interested? This is the only Yamaha forum I subscribe to. Is it a good place to shop the bike or is there another forum more appropriate for the Turbo?

    Thoughts?

I had one years ago I brought back. Ran Great but didn't ride as well. Liked the Turbo but as you said pretty docile until it kicked in. Sold it a year later.
You might be able to shake some interest on Ebay if it's unmolested... http://www.ebay.com/sch/Motorcycles-...turbo&_vxp=mtr

Pic before I finally found the Faux Muffler that goes to the dump valve.

I have two Secas, one is now parts. They're okay bikes, not great. Oiling issue with the turbo. It was my first crotch rocket. 4-1 exhaust, the other serves as the waste gate for the turbo. I can tell you that you will not make any money on that bike. It has a bad reputation. I believe Steve had one as well.

Gonna clean it up and if it runs as good as my guy says we'll see. I'd like to get $2,500 as that would take the Katana to about what I was hoping to pay for it.

Hah! Good-luck selling that bike at that price (no offense). Do some research on the bike. Not a good reputation.

I don't think much to his extortion tactics! Personally, on principle, I'd tell him where to go...... ...regardless of the other bike. You'll end up being lumbered with a white elephant that's not worth what he's forcing you to buy it at.........

And, I'm not sure you can trust the word of a manipulative person re how good the bike is that you're actually after..... I tend to steer clear of people like that.
