  • carbs jetting issue video colortune

    Hi,

The last weekend it was my first ride with my xj since ive got it one year ago. I had pod and dynojet. Ive tried different jet.

    Here my setup:

    Xj1100 83

    Dynojet stage 1-3
    4-1 exhaust
    Cheap ebay pod.
I used my oem runner air box to not block something on my carbs.
new seal, needle seat and float needle.
    Drill slide #39
    Pilot air jet 190
    main jet 124
    Idle jet 50
    c-clip on groove #2 + washer
4 open turns on mixture screw
    synced with vaccum gauge

When I use my colortune it's look like I run lean. But the idle look like rich... What you thing? I have 2 videos. One of my idle with warm engine and the second of my colortune. All my cylinder look like the video.

I am not familiar with the dyno jets and all, but I wonder if you used the YICS Eliminator tool just how much difference you would see. The YICS is something that makes tuning harder and I believe almost impossible with a colortune. Again colortune with a YICS is something I have not yet, so my theory may be wrong. Using the tool would make it act the same as the other XS1100's for tuning. Larry, known as Yahman (IIRC) on the site invented and sells these on the site for quite a reasonable price. Might be worth checking out. Someone who knows more will chime in soon, but that was my first thought.

I just watched both videos, and would say seeing a solid yellow flame @ idle means that you're not running lean on that cylinder. If all of your cylinders are firing like that, there is your problem my frenchy friend.

Actually, with the colortune, when your solid yellow as that indicates, your running rich. Now if it were white, it would indicate a lean condition.

First clean your plugs before you go back to tuning. Get the engine good and warm, I usually go for about ten mile ride before I try to tune it. What I always shoot for with the colortune is to get the yellow, then lean it out until the yellow just disappears and I have all blue. Then I richen the mixture about 1/4 turn of the mix screw. It will be mostly blue with some yellow tinges.

Right back at you Ian. I get the cool blue ones, you can have the "dusty rose" ones.

I don't had enough time to do many test drive today but I did the colortune again. I lean the mixture. Now I thing I'm 1 turn open on the screw. I dropped the screw for the idle. Tomorrow I will do a good test drive. It's so good to finally run the bike. Thanks everyone for your help!

I lean the mixture too lost the yellow and hit the bleu. I put in the middle of those colors.

I'm going through the same thing as you are right now. I'd suggest ditching the colour tune, turn the screws out 2 1/2 turns as a starting point, and adjust via plug chop.

Yeah I will use the plug chop for the high end rpm. The colortune did a good job for now. But I need to find why I don't have any fire from #4...

Funny you said" I don't have any spark from #4" Mine is also that way. I finally have exhausted all problems with the carb.
Plug is slight wet when idling but no spark. I will be checking out the Dyna coils this weekend. RPM over 3000 and #4 is running great? color is beige. Below 3000RPM and no spark.
