    Shim Kit

I think this is the kit I got. It was about $50 cheaper then though.

Yep, same one that I am looking at now. I understand your predicament. Had a similar thing happen when I was selling methanol to other racers. There was a charge for a drum if I did not get an empty in return. Unbelievable some of the excuses I used to get. Or I would finally get a drum and it would be basically useless?

If you figure out what size shims you need, you can buy them separately here. If you buy a whole kit, you'll be buying shim sizes that you will never end up using, JMHO. You know that you can also reuse your existing shims in different locations if applicable.

        Hi Phil,

You are right. I guess the thing to do is maybe see what I need first, then buy the ones needed. Thanks for the link.

I think the easiest thing would be to check a local bike shop if you live anywhere close to one. You'd have what you needed in hand same day. I'd only go to the mail if it was the only option.

Exactly why the shim library only will work sometimes. It could become a PITA for the holder while swaps or purchases can be made in a few days time. I am in Canada and for me to ship shims to the states may take up to 2 weeks and shipping sucks.
As a for instance...say I have three shims you need... now it takes up to 2 weeks for my shims to get to you. They are free except for the shipping! Just have to mail / ship them back. Price that out if you can!
Would it not make more sense to get them from mother Yammy and be on the road in a few days rather than weeks? At about $7 each I would rather have them here than fart around for 2 weeks and not knowing if they were even the right ones. At least mother Yammie will take them back and give you other sizes. If I send you a 255 because you requested it ... well it ain't like I am willing to take it back and suffer the postage etc.
So while the shim library is a great thing during the winter months...it sucks when trying to do a quick repair or fix.

Tell me why? At least Mother yammy will take it back as opposed to someone who shipped it to you in good faith that you knew what you were doing in your measurements.

What size shims are normally found (from the factory) when adjusting valve lash for the first time? And are they usually all the same shim size or different sizes? How often do you normally have to adjust valve lash?

I've usually found anything from 270-290 from the factory and no they won't all be the same. I adjust mine probably about every 40-50K, they won't need it as often as the FSM states. I adjust to the larger side of the clearance spec, that will allow a bit more time between adjustments.

                        Looking for shims

                        I am looking for some new shims, 2x 255 and 2x 260.
                        I can swap with 2x 270 and 2x 265.
I will pay shipping both ways if anyone has any or know of where I can get some

Every local shop I went to was out of anything smaller than 265

That era and later Kawasaki used same diameter shim.

I've a collection I'll need to check but 265 sounds right about where they ended ? I'll check, 1 260 all the rest are 265 or thicker.
Let me know if I can help ! Done
