11 Special Oregon camera test run

Fitted up the old girl with an Oregon Scientific Sports camera to see how well it would work. After a quick hop through my local twisty bits, got home and hooked it up to my computer to check the results (No viewing screen)

Result is - I am disappointed with the extremely narrow field of view, and the sound is woeful. Have looked up how to mod the microphone to improve the sound quality, and will have to mount it in a better position to suit the lens spread. I'll have another go at it on my next days off.

I have the midland xtc200 from walmart for $90 and I love it. It has a nice wide view and sounds good unless I put the waterproof case on it.

Yeah, Jeff,
One of those cameras probably would have been a better pick, as these are completely waterproof to start with,and the mod for the microphone is to surgically remove the membrane covering it to improve the sound quality.
I did do a couple of other runs trying it mounted in different positions but when mounted on the rack, it gave the best picture, but also picked up some weird noises like some type of resonance coming through the rack frame - CLICK

Even tried it mounted on the side of my helmet, but the narrow field of vision killed that idea, plus the flimsy rubber mounting strap allowed the camera to get the shakes up on occasions, which looks really bad when watched on the screen - CLICK

I've done the mike mod now, and will give it another shot this weekend

It is still good though. I have only used mine on the helmet mount. I had to adjust it several times so I could get the speedometer and the road.
