Aluminum Starter / Horn Buttons

I got a couple of these starter / horn buttons for my 78'E. Very nice quality. and some springs too! Service was excellent and price was $5.00 ea for the button.

Product and Service were excellent. I replaced both my starter and horn buttons with these from Ken I got last fall (2012). Guess they would fit your bike too?

Ken says: These round buttons fit most Yamaha Models from the 1970's to mid 80's

I can verify that. These are the correct buttons for your SF. If you get the metal ones, they'll never come out again.

I bought a pair of those aluminum buttons for my XJ650 a few years ago. I need to disassemble my starter switch and clean the contacts at some point because it doesn't seem to make good contact every time anymore.

I'd rather have the stainless buttons XSChop used to sell, but these look good and do just fine.

If you are short of cash and need to fix your starter/horn button there is a cheaper alternative. I bought a second hand set of switch gear a while back, fitted them to one of my bikes, it was only after a few months riding I noticed the horn button wasn't standard Yamaha, I couldn't tell who's aftermarket make it was until I was at work one day writing up a parts order, the top of my cheap plastic ball point pen looked very similar.... Yep the PO had used the top cap from a pen over the original button to hold it in place, I'm guessing the original button will have been wittled down some, it fits and works great

I considered making up some nice shiny new ones but then thought, hec leave it in there, its fine

Its a cap that fits over the outside of the pen body tube, not one of the ones that pushes inside the pen body tube

I bought my last starter button from a seller named camcubes on eBay:

It did not fit correctly in my XS11SF. I had use the old spring and the old contact (inside the plastic buttin) to get it to work. I can't remember what else I had to do, but it was disappointing tht it didn't work without modifications.

I paid more for that part becasue the picture makes it look like OEM packaging, but the button must not be OEM. Seems deceptive.

Thanks Marty & MIke... I really liked the Aluminum replacement that Kiboko Joe provided years ago and it was a direct (no modification) replacement.

I found the replacements in plastic at Mike's XS. I'd trust Mike's over Ebay anyday and they are only $6.95.
