  • 1980G Stock Fuel Arrangement

On the 1980G, what fuel delivery from tank to carbs was stock. Was there an octy or not? The petcocks seem to have different positions than the previous year models. It does not appear that you can turn the fuel off. Or is this just my imagination?

The petcocks are vacuum opperated and the positions for all the standard petcocks are the same. Only the specials had the octy.

You can make an off position on the standards. It is listed somewhere here. You have to file off the petcock positioning tab so you can turn the petcock lever in the "Up" position. That will block off all fuel to the lines.

I forgot about that! Luckily, all of my standards are properly working (knock on wood)

          Hi Rasputin,
you can convert Standard taps to manual operation with an OFF position even easier.
Here's what I did (and I found the tip on this list somewhere)
Remove the gas tap vacuum lines and cap off the manifold vacuum spigots.
Swap the gas tap levers into the opposite taps.
Now is a good time to check the 4-hole rubber thingies & replace if needed.
After the swapover down is OFF, forward is ON, back is RES on both taps.
Or if you put the tap bodies back in the other sides of the tank, forward is RES etc.
Unless it's me that put the tap bodies back in the other sides.
Take a full gas can with you on the test ride, eh?
