That's quite lucky, finding a bearing. They are NOS and I dare say shelves are full of them in the US but its finding them.......your two are on the way, Ernie and will be with you in approx 10 days. The contents of the package are described as a gift of low value...it keeps things simple re US Customs.

Only two left now. I have two reserved for XSives waiting for payday...

Please let me know when you get your package....

Take James word for it, grease that wheel bearing. Shame on me, I have had this bike since 1979, and failed to take care of it properly. Don't let this happen to you.

That's what I found on my beautiful, cosseted Black Beauty. Pristine and lovely....with a disgusting bearing just like your pic. It was like admiring a beautiful girl and finding a bad tooth! I had to get it out ASAP. Mine had lost two or three rollers...where do they end up, I wonder??

Here's a pic for the uninitiated....the bearing in all its glory. That's what they should look like!

If you're lucky, it might be OK. I don't have any bearings left now anyway.

Seeing as James has sold his lot, one must check with other members to see who bought extras if one is needed. It is but a short job to check out the bearing and grease up the things not yet greased. Once the back tire is off there is not a lot left to do unless you need a bearing.
Ah, but one should maybe take the rear wheel off and grease those silly drive shaft splines so they are serviced. IIRC that is a whopping 4 bolts and the bottom shock mount nut to remove after the rear wheel is off. Is a simple job, not very time consuming, but a very important part of maintenance. This will make you less bored and for sure make you more more familiar with your ride should you ever need to fix something in that area.
A lot of the members here will check on something that another member posted, just because it is interesting to know. Being able to talk to others about what you found, how you fixed it or whatever is a big part of the fun of being a forum member.
Ian, you have personal knowledge about things you have experienced with your bike that many guru's have not encountered. Through your postings you have passed that info on. Take a couple of hours and have a beer while you check out your rear bearing. It will interest all, even if all you did was grease it.

Couple of more parts bikes of which 2 more will live!

yes, and I know who all those Squirrel Nutkins are! Nobody had more than three but I can't help thinking someone may respond to a desperate cry for help. I did, last time, and ended up with none for myself for a while.

It's a kind of ongoing thing, tracking down bearings. My friend from Japan is actually visiting the UK on Tuesday for a week and we should be meeting up in York, I'll bend the conversation gently round to motorbikes, then wheels, then the dreaded bearing. I think he knows its inevitable....

All of us do appreciate your hard work! Those of us who have extra's (like myself) have them all spoken for. All of us would respond to a desperate cry for help...maybe not that quickly if we had to decide how much we may need it.
Every bike I work on gets a new bearing..cause I still can.
Good on you for finding these lovely bearings and God Speed on finding more. Hope your little buddy can secure more of them.
