  • What am I doing wrong

OK, guys. I know I'm 70 years old and forgetful but I've owned motorcycles for 50 years and have changed lots of brake pads.

Working on two XS 11 Standards and have removed the calipers to clean/rebuild the brakes. Removed the screw that holds the pads. CANNOT figure out how to get the pads out. Feels like I need to remove the little stainless clips/shims but can't figure out that either. No joy in either the Yamaha Service Manual or Clymers.

Please help jump start an old guy's memory. Thanks.

    You youngsters!
Take the bolt with the rubber boot out, and the parts slide apart. CZ

Yep, the brake pads sit in slots in the bracket. You have to remove the caliper from the bracket to let the pads slide out of their slots.

        Thanks, guys.

That must be what the Service Manual means by "Pull the caliper cylinder out of the caliper frame." You guys should have written the manual.
