  • Kerker

I have an 80 special with a 4 into one Kerker.
    The Muffler is shot.
There is no baffle, and there is a hole in the side by the Kerker label.

I have been searching for a reasonable replacement, but no luck so far.
    Does anyone have good alternative??

I thought about a 2 1/2" inlet glasspac, but I am afraid it will be too loud.

The bike really runs good with this no baffle Kerker pipe. I was surprised.

However, I would gladly give up a little performance for less noise.

      Thanks for the link.
I did not see those baffles.
Unfortunately I will need a muffler and a baffle.
The muffler has a hole in it.

I was hoping there was an alternative to a new super trap muffler.

Guess I have to bite the bullet. Ha

I don't think the glasspac will be too loud. I had a friend put them on a GL1100 Wing and they sounded good.

You can use just about any aftermarket universal muffler can that JCW or Dennis Kirk sells, but you will need a piece of pipe fabbed up to fit between the header and the can. Muffler shop can do this.

I cannot find much with a 2 1/2 inlet diameter except glass pack.

                You are quick.
I just found this one. $ 212 for a muffler.

The only other alternative is a auto glass pack.

                Thanks for the link

I will put a post in the "parts wanted" section for an old Kerker.

Before I spend that much money on a new 4/1 muffler , I would rather go 2/2.
A total new mac system is only about 350.
Then I can also install a center stand.

Thanks for getting back with the supertrapp stuff.
                  It is hard to justify.

Just beware that there are 2 different size kerker systems, the more popular one has IIRC a 2 1/4 outlet, then there is the larger 2 1/2. Worst case you can use an adapter if the above is the wrong size for you.

You can use an automotive Super Trapp. They make them in stainless.

Another alternative is a new exhaust while the stock remains. No one manufactures XS1100 exhaust any longer.

The price on these has gone up about $80 since the last time I looked.

I have a complete Mac 4-1 exhaust that is missing the baffle, but the only rust on it is just cosmetic. The header pipe and muffler cone are solid. I would let it go for $75.00 if you wanted to go that route. Thanks,Bob

Sorry I didn't see the $80 shipping charge for this.

Tall Bob, Thanks for the offer.

I think I will keep on looking for an old kerker muffler.

The one on ebay is cheap and poor condition, a good price, but $80 for shipping. WOW

A new Mac 2 into 2 will go on the bike if I cannot find a pipe for my headers.

I may try an auto glass pack to see how it works. From what I have read on this site, my expectations are very low.

I just put a message in the "parts wanted" section. You never know..

                            Thanks again
