    Hey there, Slo Mo!

    Tired starter/brushes
Bad starter cable, connections, start button or starter relay
Still too cold for the engine oil in TGWN
    All of the above?

      Hi slow mo,
don't work like the starter just goes clicky-whir and don't turn the motor over or don't work like nothin' effin' happens?
If the first, the usual suspect is a low battery; try boosting from your car battery.
If the second it's the dreaded intermittent contact failure. Swap in a known good starter button or short-circuit the suspect button.

I took the whole left hand control apart last week and cleaned it all up. It had a little rust and dirt in it. None of the switches would move either. There were two wires that had broken loose from the little board in there too. I soldered them back on and reassembled. The whole control works great now.
Although, I must have crossed two wires, since now when I turn on the left signal, the right one blinks. And vice-versa.
My advice would be to take yours apart and clean things up in there. Unless of course, you just have a low battery or maybe a bad ground.

I would check all the connections make sure they are clean. If you dont get any sound from your starter or solenoid at all then also check the fuse. Trust me when I say it is a common mistake. If fuse is good and connections are good and you are getting power from them then next part is to check the starter itself. Make sure that all is good. That your bushings are good and all. You may need to rebuild the starter which is easy and fun actually. But by the sounds of it from what you have said it could be the solenoid or the starter button with bad connections. Make a video though and pictures so you put everything back the way it was! bahaha, personal experience there with my old goldwing

                Hi slow mo,
nothin, eh? Stuff lights up when you turn the key though?
If the key turned the lights on the main fuse is OK
Jump the starter solenoid to see if the starter works.
Turn the key on and look for 12V on the wire going into the starter switch.
Press the starter button and look for 12v on the wire leaving the starter switch.
Press the starter button and look for 12V on the wire that powers the solenoid.
This step by step procedure lets you eliminate each possible failure point until you find the problem.

Thanks, Phil, there's my thick oil theory shot to Chinook!

                  Mo,

Does the engine run okay once the bike's been rocked and started or does it sometimes seem to lose power, surge, or miss?

It could be a bad Ignition fuse and/or Ignition terminals on the fuse block. If the Ignition circuit doesn't get power from the fuse block, the start button and starter relay can't work because they get their power from the Ignition circuit.

The kill switch is the next step in the Ignition circuit from the fuse block. A bad kill switch or harness connector for the right-hand handlebar switch will do the same thing as a bad fuse or fuse block. Again: if there's no Ignition circuit power then the start button can't work.
