Had a nice seat cover made for me 2 yrs ago, and it looks really good, but the stitching is probably going to let rain in and I'll have a nice juicy seat. Anyone got any great ideas on how to waterproof it, now that it's all assembled?

Any thoughts on waterproofing seat vinyl?

If you're lucky, whoever installed the cover put some light-weight plastic under the cover and over the foam. That way any water that goes through the stitching won't soak the foam. That's how most bike seats are done (I know that's how the OEM XS11 seats are) and that prevents 'wet azz' for days after the seat get wet....Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

When I put the gel in mine I cut a shower curtain and put it under the cover."If A equals success, then the formula is: A = X + Y + Z. X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut." - Albert Einstein

Yet again this site amazes me. I would have never thought to put plastic under my new seat cover to keep the foam from getting wet.

My seat has the cross stitching all over it and definitely is not waterproof...if it ever was. My first solution was to never leave it outside without a sheet of plastic over it. ( held on with bungee over the seat and a magnet on the tank.
My latest is an ATV seat cover from WalMart that cost $20 and has nice attachment loops that go under the seat.

I've noticed that with mine, the neoprene allows most of the water runoff so the foam inside it doesn't really get too wet, so after my bikes sits in the rain, I can go out and hop on it and my butt doesn't get too wet at all.

I like it. I have not had real rain on it yet but a heavy dew was no problem. I think I will continue to use my sheep skin over top for the long rides. Thanks for showing me how to leave some slack in the attachments.
