Are the brake rotors the same across all years? Looking to swap a set of slotted rotors from an 80 special to a 78E. How about the fork dust boots?

Not the early ones
Like Marty sez,
XS650 front disks fit but only the later one-piece disks. Earlier model XS650 2-piece disks will bolt up to an XS11 wheel but won't enter the calipers because they are dished to a different depth.
Watch that you are not offered XS650 rear disks or any XS750/850 disks.
They look the same as XS650/XS11 disks and will also bolt up to an XS11 wheel but they are ~1" smaller in diameter.Fred Hill, S'toon

The other thing to look for is the slots in the later models as opposed to the solid earlier ones. I guess that only applies to looks or if you may be buying off ebay. Just kind of looks dumb having one slotted rotor and a solid one on the other side.2-79 XS1100 SF

Actually, Im going to be picking up an 80 special bobber/hardtail. It has the slotted rotors and being that it will be a future project and sit in my garage for quite some time, I want to put the slotted rotors on my 78. I was going to put the dust boots on to the 79 but it looks like thats out of the question.Nate

Yes they are all the same.
BUT
There is a assembly line "corective" rotor that has a slightly different dish to it. Don't remember if it is deeper or shallower but it won't work if you get one. There is no way to tell which one it is until you have it laying on a table and measure it.Nathan

The difference is .050" deeper. Not a lot, and not something you can see by 'eye', but definitely enough to screw up wheel/caliper alignment....
I've got two of 'em, and one caused me all kinds of trouble when I was trying to do a caliper swap....Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
