I've just bought a 1978 XS1100 and I need to replace the brake pads. Problem is I don't know what model my bike is and I can't seem to find it anywhere on the bike. I need to know this so I can get the right brakes. Can you tell me how to ID this thing? Thanks

Check out serial # & model identification under miscellaneous tips. There is a lot of great information in the maintance sections that you will need from time to time. Enjoy your ride, these XS's are good machines - but do need TLC.Ken

I just bought a set of these and installed and worked perfectly. With this set you get all new internal hardware. Mine ended up costing me 45.00 plus 6.00 freight.
Make sure you have a 78 Standard for these to work.

If it's a US 78, it should be a standard as there was no US special made in 78. But of course it could be a 79 made in 78. There are a couple ways to tell for sure:
1. Is the headlight square?
2. Does the front Axle go through the forks or in front of them?
Question number 2 is actually a lot better at identifying which brake pads you need up front.

Uh......
Just a reminder. Try Zanotti Motors for parts, as they discount internet sales. Doesn't hurt to mention you are a member of XS11.com. I just bought 2 front sets of EBC pads for my XJ, $36.00 for the pair. Bought a few other items as well, $24.00 for 2 new battery cables the local dealer quoted at $36.00. Their minimum shipping is $5.00, not a great bargain for very small orders but if you need a couple things it pays off. Shipping for the pads, cables, and other small items I ordered came to $10.00.
No connection to Zanotti, just a satisfied customer. Link to their web page and address is in the Tech Tips section under Sources.Jerry Fields
