black box

Do we have any folks on here with a defective black box/CDI ?
I've a friend on the 650 list that repairs these for the 650. I asked if he's ever done an 1100 and he said he's never seen one. I told him there were 3 variations am I right ?
Anyway thought if he could do these too we would be the better for it, Yes ?

We used to have a fellow called Randy/Davinci that was into Electronics and did repairs on them for members for many years. I haven't heard from him lately whether he was still doing this or not since he sold his XS11 and has a GoldWing?

Captain Zap had mentioned something about this, but don't know if he is willing or has the time to work on them?

There are 3 versions, but the last 2 have programmable eprom chips, and was told that we didn't have the INFO that is in the programming, etc., so aside from the other regular components of the later tci's, that they may not be repairable due to the lack of programming info and equipment!?!?

The first generation of TCI is relatively simple in it's design, so much so that it can actually be replaced with aftermarket substitute parts...folks can actually build their own....see the tech tip in the mods section.

Did the XS650 in 81-82 also have the eprom chip ?
I would think not as it's much smaller.
I wonder if the programming could be copied from the TCI, installed on a lap top/computer and re-installed ?

hey don, mark in mesa here. I thought rick the fix repaired the xs650 boxes by resoldering loose solder joints. did he actually repair components on the pcb inside? I know lots of xs650 guys have used him with great success. I've not had to so I don't really know what sort of "magic" he does

Hi 650mark !

He does diodes and such as well as soldering. What ever does not meet spec.

Let Us See what he can do for us ? ? ?
