  • Final Drive/ Did something wrong

Hi guys, I am doing the 750 conversion on my 80G. Noticed how easy it was to turn the drive with my hand. Took the pinion nut off, cleaned the area, filled the spooge holes, put the 1/2 washer in place and re-torqued the pinion nut to 50lbs. as described in the tech tip. Could'nt turn the drive with my hand. What did I do wrong?

The pinion nut is too tight. The 50 FtLbs is with a NEW crush washer. I just tighten until I start to feel a bit of drag on the input, and call it good. If you use locktite on the threads, the nut will NOT back off.
You should be able to loosen the nut and be good to go.

Thanks for the help. I will make this change, install the driveshaft spacer, pick up my wheels with the new tires and button everything up.

I had the same thign happen first time I did this swap. And it may have been Ray that advised me the same thing. Backed the nut off, then tightend it until I just felt increased resistance to turning it. Never had a problem from the drive.
