Until we started having to use the 10% ethanol mandated here I did the same. I simply shut it off and then started it up in the spring. Never had an issue and the bike always started and ran fine.
Now with the ethanol in the fuel I am finding that even a month will affect how the bike runs and gums up the carbs. Been doing a bit of research today (after I rode) to see what is all available to us. I do not trust Seafoam as I have not had good results with it as a fuel stabilizer. As a cleaner it rocks, just not working for me as a long term storage thing.

Find it kind of interesting, as I do many of the newer ethanol fuel stabilizers results. There are many corrosive qualities and other problems with the ethanol that may require different ideas than what has worked in the past.
Each to his own but I will be trying a few different brands on my bikes this storage season to see if one suits me better than another.
