Vetter Fairing Sq Headlight

Hi guys, this is my first post and it seems to be a doosey. I have a 78 xs11e standard w/ Yamaha/Vetter fairing. It came on the bike way back when. Well I'm in need of a spare headlight.
I bought a yamaha sq headlight on ebay for it, then when I got it I figured out that it will fit and work in the standard bucket w/o the fairing. But not in the fairing.

The diff is the one I bought is all glass, the one for the fairing is metal on the backside with 2 adjustment screw for aiming the light. The mfg for the light and both buckets is Stanley out of Japan. I can't find them are they still in business?

I have contacted Vetter Corp on the web but they say this was made by the company that bought them out and he has no info on it.

Any help would be great

Are you certain it's a Vetter and not a Pacifico? I may be wrong but I think all the Vetters had round headlights, Pacifico has both round and square.
I may have a spare rectangular light hanging around (off my Pacifico). It's the original sealed beam, not the (later years) H4 type.

On the tag where the the wiring pigtale enters all it says is Yamaha in big letters by Vetter in small letters. The windshield says Vetter, the air vents and chrome edge molding I just bought came from vetter.

Take the headlight out and bring it to an auto parts store. chances are it's a standard sealed beam bulb. I had the same fairing on my '81 and it used a standard sealed beam bulb.

By the way headlight is marked Stanley in the middle & Motorcycle at the bottom.

nice pics. that fairing is the same one I had on my 81. the headlight is a standard sealed beam bulb. Etched into the face of the glass is a part number that any good auto parts store should be able to cross reference.

I'll take it out tonight to take to an auto parts store. But there is no number on the front altough I think there is one on the back. It says motorcycle on the front.

I thought auto head light would not take the punishment of a bike.

I have been trying to find one for my 78E with no fairing, it sounds like the same one you are looking for with the adjuster ears and mounting tab on the light itself. So far no success. If you find a source please post it. I would like to find one that takes a replaceable H4.

The later model standards (and maybe specials) had H4 replaceable bulbs in a housing. I bought a round one "conversion" for a vetter faring from Whipme and it worked out fine. I believe the rectangular "conversion" housings will not work in the model E because some of the original flanges are fused right to the back of the original sealed beam and the Whipme housing had none.

sQUARE hEADLIGHT

On my 78E I had a low beam burn out. Thought I would get tricky and up graded to a square automobile sports headlight.(2B1 Halogen Seal Beam) I believe it was 60/100. Well anyway, I had the same problem.
I cut the tabs off of the back of the original head light unit and JB welded them onto the back of my new square seal beam. It took a little brute force to fit things all back together but I succeeded.

HA! It was a bit more that brute force. I know, 'cause I did that years ago! I had to break the original's glass to get the tabs off. OK, you probably used more finesse that I could muster...

That's a factory Yamaha faring made by Pacifico. It takes the same headlight and turnsignals as a stock xs11 standard.
