1979 xs1100s ignition issue

OK so started it up was running fine then hit high rpm so I shut it down and now I go to start and it backfires but won't fully start . What's up?

3 things Don,

#1) Be sure your throttle linkage at the carb isn't hanging up, possibly on a boot clamp.

#2) be sure your throttle cable is properly routed and isn't binding.

#3) SYNC THOSE DAMN CARBS!!!!!!

so I got up this morning and went out to start my bike and yeah, someone stole my ****ing carbs!!!!!

I called the police made a report and all they do is ask me if I have any information on them. I tell them know and they just say that they will do what they can but I wouldnt count on finding them!

Anyone got any carbs that work that I can do payments on now?

God damn mother Effer son of jose kick me and just let me die!!!!

Well the first question i ask is-Any of your friends playing a joke on you?Was anything else taken from the bike? If not,i would look on E-bay or Craigslist as someone might try to sell them.

Ive called all my friends and explained to them that I have called the police. They understand how serious this is and none of them have stolen anything or played a prank. This just really effing sucks. I cant believe someone would do this!!!!!

Obviously the thief had to know that the carbs are worth something otherwise why take them?!

I honestly don't know. As of right now I have none so yeah I'm screwed and highly pissed off cause they were working. I just need to dial them in and go. Son of a bitch kids are pissing me off.

Probably just some crack head who needed scrap metal stole them thinking he would get rich off the aluminium. Wish I could help but all my carbs are spoken for. I do have parts and spare bodies if that would help in any way.

What else did they tear up getting them off the bike? If nothing, then it was someone who had some idea what they were doing.

That is amazing. Closest I ever come to such shananigans was years ago when someone stoll the battery out of my beater truck. Funny thing was they left behind a ball peen hammer (I still have and use the hammer) but broke absolutely nothing in the process. At the time my brother was having some "substance" issues, and I am certain to this day one of his friends came by and relieved me of the battery.

I just find it ridiculous cause someone would go as low as stealing motorcycle parts and what not? I mean I have a good heart. I help out the homeless and would and have given my shirt off my back to people who are in need. If I ever catch who did this I'm going to make sure that they go to jail and have a really bad time cause to steal is just not cool. I mean they came to my property and stole stuff! That takes a really low person.

Up here they will cut it out while you are shopping at Walmart. Special interest is shown to big diesel trucks. They get a lot (150 bucks) from the re-cyclers for the Cat and you will pay 1600 bucks to replace it. I guess there are some kind of precious metals in there. Even had an incident up here where the guy phoned in ahead to make sure they had the cash. The re-cyclers phoned the cops and wow what a show. Smashed doors on their shop and a couple of police cruisers damaged. The dumb ass is out a newer F250 ford truck that he smashed up as well as facing many charges.

OK so got the carbs from Andreas and man am I thankful for him. Figured what the heck cleaned them up and went to go start it. Nothing. Greg I am now going to strip and clean the carbs. Thank god I listened to you. So today's project will be carb cleaning. I know I need to clean them cause I go to start and it acts like it wants to start by me turning the key and the starter going and all. I am going to hook back up the tank and see if fuel is getting into the fuel bowls and just go from there. Again thanks Andreas for the carbs.

OK so started it up this morning. Gave it some gas and when it revs it seems to sputter. Going to check the pick up coils after work and do the sync. Just doing an update.
