  • XJ1100 rear brake seals

    I'm new here, so please be gentle.....

    Just purchased an XJ1100 - previous owner told me that the rear brakes just needed bled. But when I tried to do this I see the fluid is just dripping out the bottom of the piston chamber, so I need new seals, at least. But I can't find rear MC seals or a kit for this bike anywhere - are they just not avialalbe? Will a rear MC kit from an XS1100 work for the XJ?

    Thanks for any help and guidance.

      HCP2970 OEM rear MASTER CYLINDER REBUILD KIT for all XJ1100 models.
      $ 52.00

      Chacal the parts guy at XJbikes.com has these.

      If you take yours apart, you may find that the seal has just flipped over from improper bleeding (pushing the pedal down too far). You may get lucky by cleaning it out and reassembling.

        If you are talking about the piston chamber of the caliper, you might get lucky and get by with a good cleaning of the caliper. There is a square rubber seal that fits in a groove of the piston, and crud builds up in it. Then when the cruds get under the edge of the seal, by what ever strange mechanations accomplished by the PO, (around here, we blame everything on them,) the seal can leak.
        Try this;http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...+brake+rebuild
        Try that before spending money.

          I'll definitely look into this - I did push the pedal down a lot, not knowing initially what the problem was.

          Absolutely blaming the previous owner. He owned the bike for over 20 years!

          Thanks for the info.
