  • oil cooler question

I guess this is my day for odd questions so here goes:
today I went to look at an xs1100 standard advertised as a "rough" parts bike for sale here in the phoenix area. "rough" is the understatement of the century. talk about a clapped out roach I wouldn't have hauled it away if the seller paid me. anyway, I did see that it had some sort of oil cooler installed but the oil lines did not go down to the special plate at the oil filter housing. instead, they were routed up over the top of the motor and were spliced into the stock external steel oil line that feeds oil to the head. anybody seen this before? wouldn't this drastically lower oil pressure to the head? just curious...

Idk how restrictive the coolers are but I cant imagine they are that bad. It would help the head well.

      Pressure

Oil pressure would be the same. Flow numbers may change to the head, but maybe not enough to be detrimental.

In the later model factory coolers, the oil going through them was being filtered. Not so in the add-on cooler on the parts bike.

I've seen a couple of parts bikes plumbed that way but never a running scoot.

        A clue?
