Anyone else having running issues with your bike?

2 or 3 weeks ago my bike started having idle issues. I've adjusted carbs, synced and replaced plugs. The plugs helped for a time but it's back to the same stupidness. Runs ok on the road but just won't idle right.

I thought it might be a carb issue but I've been working on the SF today, put the new tank on, and it's doing the same damn thing.

I'm starting to think that when they changed from winter blend to summer blend they screwed up the gas.

You know more than I do about these bikes but I would say you are right, maybe bad gas if you got it at the same place.

The SG appears to have been a spark issue. Put on a different set of coils and new caps and it seems OK now.

      We'll see.

The SF is aggravating me though. It was running perfectly but has been sitting for about 4 weeks. I might need to pull those carbs again .................5th time.

      #3 ain't firing at idle.

Frustrating when that happens, to say the least,BTDT. As much as I've hated to 'go there', sourse of issue majority of time has turned out to be pri. or sec. ignition, and at times a bit of both. Seems occassionaly, that some of that all important smoke magicly dissapears when its ignored for a period of time.

I was just checking the coils I took off. 1 & 4 coil secondary is dead.

          Thanks fleabay.

Before you found the coil problem your issue reminded me of a similar puzzle I had a few years ago. Idle issues arose on my SF which lead me to suspect pilot jet trash. To my surprise I found them clean and clear. While doing a re-sync it would not stay running. Found the battery water low below plates , I had just checked it a few weeks prior so didn't even occur to me to recheck. Silly me.. It was over 4 years old so a new one went in and problem solved. come to think of it, that was about 4 years ago....hummmm.

I was thinking it was the gas too.I added the Lucas ethanol treatment and dry gas and briefly took it for a ride. The idle was real low so i turned it a tad up.Still i got a lot of popping through the carbs.Today i removed the tank, checked on the coil connections and sprayed electrical cleaner into them and used an air compressor to blow them out.I started the bike up and noticed second pipe from left not as hot as the others.I removed the carbs and took off the float bowl on the suspecting pipe. When i removed the float pin and float, i took the screen out and at the bottom of the hole was a bunch of crud- probably from gas sitting too long.I cleaned it out real good and put bike back together-running better than before-not popping really- some not a lot.I also noticed the black vacuum plugs were cracked.I replaced 1 but need to get more.I think i have the issue solved.
