  • Dynatek hook up

I just got a set of used dynatek coils off eBay. I need to know which terminal is hooked to the wiring harness connectors?

    Thanks

If the coils are marked with a "+" and a "-", then the + would go to the red/wht and the - would go to the orange and the gray. If there are no markings, then they are not polarity sensitive.

        Thanks Phil,

These are stamped 11/93 but no polarity markings.

Even though these might not have polarity I would like to hook them up the same as later models. When looking at the two screw positions, one is on the output lead side of the mounting post and the other is on the other side of the post. Does anyone have a set off that could look and see which would be the - and +?

Coil polarity on these bikes doesn't matter. Because you have a spark plug connected to each end of the secondary winding, the polarity of one of them is always going to be 'backwards'. If the coil terminals are identified, go with what they say, it won't hurt anything but isn't critical.

This can be a big deal, just not in this case. Much more of an issue with cars/trucks where you don't have a 'wasted spark' system and some coils were wound as 'autotransformers' (primary and secondary share part of the windings). Wrong polarity on these would result in reduced energy to the plug and burned points.
