    Drive Shaft/Slide Hammer?

    Hi guys, I am plannig on installing my new Shinko 712 rear on my 80G next month. I have a 750 final drive that I want to install at the same time.I bought a 2 lb. slide hammer set from Harbour Freight. How do I attatch the slide hammer to the driveshaft? I see the 2 different size grappler hooks,and I understand how to assemble it, but I am not quite sure how it works. Also, wil the Permatex Copper RTV work as well as the 3 Bond gasket maker at sealing up the spooge holes? I won't be able to get back to the computer until tomorrow, so look forward to everyone's input. Thanks for all the help.

      You really don't need a slap hammer to get it out. It can be pried out with a screwdriver or 2.

          If you want any sealer to stick, you must remove all traces of oil or grease. ALL TRACES!
          Q tips soaked in acetone will help, as will a first good rinse with solvent to get the major portion off. Then Q tips swabbing out the holes, and all around the area should get it clean. Keep changing Q tips till they come out clean.

              I used hardening gasket maker (Permatex like stuff) .

                  When I pull the drive shaft, I make a loop of wire (I happen to have some garage door opener low voltage wire I do not need) I wrap it a couple times around the shaft, and pull it tight behind the bell at the end. Grab the wire in a set of vicegrips, and now you can use a Mallet to hit the pliers and pop it out. That's what works for me.

                  The harder part is getting it back into the u-joint.
