  • Frame Sticker / Tag removal?

Hey, there, it's me again with another wierd question...

Has anyone ever attempted (successfully) to remove and re-stick the frame tag. That's the one with the VIN number on it that is on the fork steering / head / bearing tube.

Before you jump to conclusions, I'm not trying to change the VIN #, I'm going to strip the frame and re-paint. I figure I can mask it off, but removal might be a safer option?

    Randy,
try heating with a hair drier until is it soft and pliable. It worked on the base stickers from a military base.

You might want to try on somebodies parts Bike. When I registered My 650 for the first time in CT I had to take it to DMV for a $20 inspection which just turned out to be just a verification of the VIN. I don't know what they would have done had the sticker been noticably tampered with. But I bet it would have at least taken a bunch more time to make'em happy. May not apply in your state or circumstances but I'd check the rules before I messed with it unless I was sure I could do it without messng it up.

I wouldn't worry too much about the stick on label. The VIN is etched/pressed into the frame, at least on my 81, and most vehicles have to have it in some more permanent form, like a piece of metal with the # stamped/etched into it. The sticker is probably just to make it easier to read it, but I'd bet you'll find it actually etched into the frame on the right hand side as you sit on the bike!
