  • Front wheel swap from G to SG?

Okay, so I'm on the slab yesterday afternoon on the way home from work, the front end starts wobbling up and down. WTF ? I'm wondering what's going on, so I slow down some and start to pull off onto the shoulder and OH NO, flat front tire!
By the time I get it stopped, the tire is already off the bead.
I limp it on the shoulder about 1/4 mile to the next exit and call the wife and have her bring the truck.

So my question is: (I'm sure I already know the answer, but I want comfirmation)
Can I pull the entire wheel off my G (rotors and all) and put that wheel on my SG?
I wasn't sure about the G rotors alignment with the SG calipers.

The other option of course is to dismount the tire off the G and mount it on the SG, but that's too much work, especially if I can do this wheel swap straight up.
Sure I know it'll look a little weird without the slotted rotors, but at least I can ride her to work Saturday.

It's a direct swap, everything is the same except the speedo drive.
    2H7 (79) owned since '89
    3H3 owned since '06

Thanks Phil, that's what I thought. I'm keeping the SG's speedo gear, so that's not a problem.

Why not swap the rotors too?

          Hi GLoweVA
Yes they swap but it don't stop there.
XS750/850 wheel fits (swap out smaller rotors)
XS650 cast wheel fits (add leftside rotor)
XS650 wire wheel fits (swap early 2-part rotor, add leftside rotor)
Your least total effort fix is swap the slotted rotors and keep that wheel on the Special.
Your flat tire is most likely hooped so leave the ex-Special wheel out until you can put new rubber on it.
You'll end up with the wheels permanently swapped but it's the same casting anyway.
My XS11SG is currently wearing an XS650 cast wheel because that wheel had good rubber on it.
I don't think the bike knows or cares.

Yeah Fred, the plan is to just do the swap because the G's tire is good to go. Once new rubber is recieved, then put the new tire on the SG rim and put it back on the SG.
I didn't know that the 750/850's had smaller rotors, that's good info to know.

Sure, I could swap the rotors over from the SG to the G, but that's too much work with all those little tabs and torque and such. I need a fairly quick and easy fix to get back on the road.
The G is kinda out of commision right now, so using its front wheel seemed like a very easy option.
